Ok I have a 32MB NexDisk flash card (USB) and it runs fine under OS 9. I've tested this on several comps at school, the iMac behind me, and this one.
Now when I'm using this comp booted into OS X 10.2, it will mount the drive fine, but after a few minutes it will unmount, and give me that warning saying not to remove a drive in use. It also does this on my PowerBook G3 500 Pismo when it's booted into OS X.
Is OS X always like this with USB flash drives, because i just switched to OS X from 9 when i bought this comp, and it came with jaguar.
