Hello everybody.

I am using probably one of the last PowerMac machines produced with a dual G5 processor and Leopard onboard. So far it has been working very good, specially when I upgraded the RAM to 4GB but just recently noticed a problem.

Recently I found myself owning many microSD memory cards, so I got several microSD-USB adapters to convert them into thumb drives. I've been able to use them in other machines, but when I use it in this specific machine there is always trouble: if they even get detected, then at some point when I am accessing the device (mostly while copying data in or out), the system "unplugs" it automatically sending an error message that the USB device was improperly unmounted and that data loss may have occurred. Other "one piece" USB memory devices including external hard drives and "Kingston Data Traveler" thumb drives work just fine.

I don't know if the issue developed recently since I started using those adapters a few months ago.

What's the problem here? Am I looking at some weird electrical problem with the USB ports? I wouldn't think the USB devices I described draw that much power from the ports, and other machines (even Macs) have no problem with them, perhaps they deliver too much power?

As extra information I will add that the very first of those adapters worked very well until I plugged it in this machine: developed the problem and it is the only one I had to throw away because it stopped working with my other machines.

Thanks,
Joe.
