I have a 13.3" MBP (the 2.26GHz). I just took the 160GB Hitachi drive out and replaced it with a 500GB WD Blue. The Blue itself works great. The Hitachi is now in an USB 2.0 External Enclosure, with a 120GB partition for time machine and the other 40GB is an NTFS partition (uses NTFS-3g).

I have the USB 2.0 drive connected anytime the computer is "docked" at my desk (I run it in clamshell mode on a Dell 22" LCD with apple bluetooth keyboard. I have several USB devices (including the drive) connected by a powered D-link hub & all seems to be good for the most part...however I have noticed the following issue:

Since I started doing this, there have been two separate times where I suddenly hear a loud audible CLICK, followed by a pop up warning saying that the drive was removed unsafely. Now the funny part: it keeps repeating this click (roughly every 5-10 seconds) with the notice popping up regularly until I physically disconnect the drive and plug it back in, at which point everything is back to normal.

Anyone have thoughts on this?
