Hi MacRumors: Forums,
I have discovered that using a USB extension cable for an iPhone (mine is the iPhone 3G), that a USB extension cable > 3mts. will not work.

I bought a 5mt. USB extension cable and while the PC recognises the iPhone, data will not sync and power will not power up about 80% of the time.

I rung Apple and went to an Apple store and they will only provide a 3mt. USB extension from a 3rd party supplier.

This is sad news as I need my iPhone on the right side of my desk, and the PC will only fit on the floor on the left side of my desk. I need the left side of my desk for space like important incoming papers or to rest my feet ;-)

The right side of the desk is always vacant and has my cordless phone and space for the iPhone sitting in a cradle.

If anyone knows how to power up the week USB ports to handle greater length, I would be very happy.

Cheers,
eiger3970.
