I (almost) have a mac mini and like to use for recording 8tracks of audio (drums).

I'm on the point of buying an audio interface and an external hard disk. Both can be Firewire or USB, but what is best in my case? The mac mini only has 1 FW port so I have to choose.

Should I get a Firewire Interface (like the focusrite pro 40) with an external USB2.0 harddisk or buy a USB interface like the M-AUDIO FAST TRACK ULTRA 8R and hook it up with a Firewire800 hard disk?

thanx already

Both FW. You can chain them (plug the interface on the hard drive). Just take care two get to connectors on the HD.

FW is a must for music and video so this will be a better investment.

Yes. I;ve thought about that too but also read that chaining can cause problems with the interface when recording 8 tracks simultanously?

Man I doubt about this though I am not a specialist. Let them come to this post. But FW is extremely fast. Do you still have this article you read ?

hehe this is embarrassing. I don't know what to think... If I had to choose I would go for a FW HD because USB ones are really slow... Let's wait for more answers !
