Mavericks 10.9.5
USB external HDD/SDD drives are used as destination for backups made by Time Machine and 3rd party solutions. There is no the slightest need the volumes on those drives to be indexed by Spotlight.
Therefore exclusion rules have been made in System Preferences > Spotlight > Privacy.
So, the indexing starts on every connect and messes up the storage space.
However the OS forgets all these rules on every eject/unmount of such volume, every pass through to running virtual machine.
Is this a known weakness of Mavericks?
How to fix it?
Do the Mavericks followers behave better?
