USB External Drives won't show up after dismounting them?

hey guys, i'm running OSX Lion and for some reason my external USB drives won't show up unless i reboot OSX.

does anyone know why?

what can i do to fix it?

Look at Semulov, it lets you eject (unmount) and mount your internal and external volumes and HDDs without the need of Disk Utility.
