I have had a USB drive plugged into my Macbook Pro (running OS X Lion) for a while now. I also haven't used it in a while. But now I need to use it, and it's not showing up in Finder. I have my Finder preferences set to show External drives. But I still don't see the USB drive on the left side of Finder.

Can you "see it" if you open Disk Utility?

Does Disk Utility give you the option to re-initialize it?

Sometimes these things just "go bad"... only choice is to replace it.

Disk Utility did not show the drive. It did not go bad, it's a OS X problem, because I just took it out and put it into a Windows PC and it works fine.

There are some battles that aren't worth fighting.

My suggestion if you can't get the flashdrive "visible" to the Mac.

1. Use ANOTHER flashdrive that is "known working" on both the Mac and PC.

2. Take the "problem flashdrive" and connect it to the PC

3. Connect the second "known working" flashdrive to the PC, too.

4. Copy what you want to transfer from the problem flashdrive to the known good one.

5. Take the known good drive to the Mac. Does this "get moved" what you need to?
