What is the trick to get the on board USB Hub working on a dell monitor? I have the monitor connected to the M1 Mac Mini by USB-C for the display signal. I want to also use the onboard USB hub on the monitor so I am using the included Dell USB 3.0 Type B cable to go from the monitor upstream port to one of the USB 3.0 ports on the Mac Mini. I've tried changing ports on the mini and nothing helps. The ports on the Mini are good as other devices work when connected. Maybe a Firmware issue between the mac mini and Dell? Anyone else experience this? The monitor is a Dell U3818DW. Thanks

Similar problem with Dell U3219Q and M1 Mac Mini (Big Sur, 11.6). Using only USB-C connection for Video and Hub. Only workaround is to disconnect USB-C AFTER booting and connected again, then the Hub works.

Same issue with Mac mini M1 (with Monterey 12.0.1) + Dell P2720DC. The suggestions from Apple support didn't help (start up in safe mode, run diagnostics). But I'm using the monitor without an issue with my Lenovo T480 with the same USB-C cable, I don't need this annoying USB-C cable disconnect/reconnect or monitor off/on steps on each boot/reboot to make my Mac mini recognize the USB keyboard and mouse attached to my display.
I think the only thing we can do is report the issue on https://www.apple.com/feedback/ and hope Apple will fix it. I already report it, but I think the more people report it the bigger the chance that they will look into it.

I get it now. I've never had those issues. The only input device into my monitor is the logitech mouse. All of my other USB devices are on a 3.0 Strip Hub that connects to my Elecife Hub under the mini. :)

Hello guys, I just changed the notebook from 2019 (Intel) to M1 Pro. M1 Pro was cleaned installed – nothing transferred from the old one. Right after this change the problem with disconnecting USB peripherals occurs. My monitor is Dell UP2720Q connected via TB3. System was and is Monterey 12.2.1 and I had no single USB drop with the Intel machine. So obviously the problem is with M1 models and can't be solved by a cable or some software change. It is on Apple to solve it.

Same issue here with LG 27UP850-W, everything works well over USB-C, going into sleep is not a problem as I can still wake the macbook and the monitor with the mouse connected to the monitor USB hub. The issue is after reboot where the hub is not detected/enabled unless I unplug and replug the USB-C cable into the monitor. I'm wondering if users of the LG 32UN880 are having the same issue as I have seen many recommendation for this monitor.

I can confirm that the USB hub built into Dell U3821DW doesn't work with Mac Mini M2 Pro (Ventura 13.2.1) irrespective of how the monitor is connected. None of the USB peripherals are recognized or available to the Mini. This situation doesn't change whether the monitor is connected via the Apple Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable or if extra USB 3.2 (Gen1) cable is connected from the monitor upstream port to the Mini. For example, my Blue Yeti X microphone and Logitech C920 webcam plugged into the monitor USB hub aren't available to the Mini.

In contrast, all USB ports built into the monitor hub work flawlessly when the monitor is connected via the same Apple Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable to a 16-in 2019 Intel MacBook Pro (Monterey 12.6.3). The built-in USB hub also worked correctly when the MacBook Pro was previously connected via a USB-C to DisplayPort cable plus the upstream USB cable to carry data.

Besides the fact that monitor settings remained the same between the two hook-up, no amount of fiddling with monitor menu settings could change the outcome. I'm left to conclude that Dell U3821DW monitor built-in USB hub isn't available to Mac Mini M2 Pro users running Ventura 13.2.1.

Thanks for the feedback, it's good to know it also affects the M2 Pro Mini and the Apple Thunderbolt 4 Pro cable doesn't help either, so I won't need to try these.

I'm also still experiencing this bug with my M1 Mini even on the latest Ventura update. It's quite shocking that they still haven't fix this bug either if its a hardware issue in the new M series or a software bug.
I actually think it is a software bug because reconnecting the USB-C port or turning on/off the monitor "fixes" the issue so it doesn't sound like impossible to properly fix it in macOS (or even in a hacky way, I don't care, just make it work without having go through the manual trouble every single day). My guess is just they haven't got that many feedback about this issue to hit their threshold.
So if someone else is also annoyed by this bug, please also report it to Apple: https://www.apple.com/feedback/
Maybe they will look into it if they get enough feedback...

I have exactly the same problem with a Dell P2421DC on my M2 MacBook Pro 14".

I thought it was a Dell issue but seems like it impacts multiple monitor brands? Is anyone not having this issue?

It may not be a Dell monitor issue because the built-in USB hub works perfectly with my Intel-based MacBook Pro 16". And the USB hub built into my previous Dell U3415W also worked perfectly with Intel-based Macs. It's possible this issue is caused by Apple silicon Macs but I have no idea why and I can't explain why other external USB hubs work with Apple silicon Macs but hubs built into Dell monitors don't. There's plenty of uncertainty in this scenario for Dell to blame Apple but equally for Apple to blame Dell. One can only hope that Apple and Dell will be able to sort it out.

I am waiting to install the forthcoming Ventura 13.3 update once released in the hope that OS update would resolve the USB standoff between my Mac Mini M2 Pro and Dell U3821DW. If that doesn't work, I'll have to buy a separate USB hub, which is a shame given that the USB hub built into my Dell monitor fits my needs perfectly if it only worked with my Mini.
