So it's that time of year again when my USB hub dies and I need to look through enormous lists of potential replacements without any idea if any of them are worth paying money for, hooray!

So this time I'm looking for recommendations; I need a well-made USB 3.0 (no type C or 3.1) hub with at least four ports, but preferably 7 or more, and with its own power supply. I'm not too bothered about style, but darker is probably best.

Oh, and I'd prefer one with either no LEDs at all, or only a small, easily blocked one; I have never understood the obsession with some manufacturers and putting the brightest most obnoxious LEDs on their devices as possible, or even worse multiple.

Sorry if I sound jaded and picky, but it's been a bit over four years now and in that time I've had to buy four USB hubs, each having failed just outside of warranty, and picked from among the reams and reams of even worse options. In that time it doesn't seem to matter if I buy a more expensive hub or not, they all just seem to be equally poorly made.

On which note I tend to lean towards cheaper hubs as I've paid extra for "premium" devices in the past and found them to be nothing of the sort; by the far the worst was one of Amazon's own-brand hubs (which they still sell) which came with a massive power-brick and buzzed, had an overly bright LED leaking light from it's cheap plastic shell, and it wasn't even inexpensive! Never again.

So yeah, I'd appreciate any recommendations for good hubs, as well as being interested in confirming if I'm not the only one who has found USB hubs to be among the worst peripherals to buy. Even my Apple Cinema Display's built in hub was a miserable disappointment, even though the display itself is still going strong.
