I've recently made the plunge and decided to switch from Windows to Mac and ordered my first iMac. With the USB ports at the back of the machine, I contemplating buying a USB hub so I can easily connect/disconnect items and was wondering if anyone can recommend a USB hub. Ideally with at least 5 ports.

Almost all USB hubs are identical electronically. There are a small number of HUB chips that are used in everything from the $1 USB hub up to the $50 ones. The only real difference is the quality of the build of the enclosure. So find one that you like aesthetically and you're good to go.

Note, some really cheap ones skip the capacitors and a few other things to be cheaper. So go for a mid ranged priced one and you'll be fine... typically.

Cheers for the replies. I've previously bought a cheap one off eBay which wasn't great so I think I'll spend a bit more on this new one.
