Got my new iMac
My working usb hub worked fine with the PC
Now doesn't work with the mac
Bought a new one, dang, doesn't work either

Is there something I need to do on a mac to get them to work?

This new one has activity light that comes on, telling me the printer and ext HDD is connected, but nothing coming up on the mac

Thanks

They are no name brands, and no they are not self powered
I have not looked in sys profiler

No ext HDD come sup on the desktop when I turn it on though?

At least on the Mac with the exception of low powered devices like keyboards, some mice and most flash sticks non-powered hubs are not going to work with most other types of devices. I would strongly suspect that is the basis for your problem- particularly in regards to a hard drive.

Can you take the new one you bought back and exchange it for a self-powered one? I have four various self-powered ones in my array (one of which daisy chains off another) and all work fine with all devices.

smd - in endorsing what you say about snowmaan's situation, I'd also like to ask you about your USB hubs.

I'm considering two brands of 7-port powered hubs, Cyberpower and Targus, for connection to my eMac. Can you comment on either? Only the Targus is available in NZ, but I can get a CP in from the US. Very little difference in price, and the Targus has audio-through, which may or may not be useful. I already have a CP battery-powered USB2 hub - a little beauty!
