USB Key Speed dropped?!

I have a USB 2.0 thumb drive which has recently started transferring speeds at 2 MB/sec when before it was about 20 MB/sec. I've tried reformatting it in my PC and MAC but nothing I have tried will get it back to it's original speed.

Any suggestions or thoughts on this?! I've had the drive for more than 6 months.
