USB midi not showing up

I have a late 2014 iMac running 11.4 that I use for music. My midi controller connects to editor software using usb. Since upgrading to Big Sur, it hasn’t been able to connect. I have a driver that should work. The unit shows up with its serial number, manufacturer and such when I go into the system report, but it doesn’t show up in Audio/Midi Setup or the editor software like it used to. Works fine on my 2011 17” MBP, but is a hassle to have to pull the laptop out next to my iMac just do some simple program editing? Any ideas where the breakdown is or how to fix it? Much appreciated.
