I would like to put files onto the iMac but every usb device I out in does not get read and the iMac says the software needed to usb device "usb device" cannot be found. Please refer to the device documentation to install the necessary software. of anyone could help me that would be Wonderfull it is on Mac OS 8.6

how do I burn this to a cd-rw that the iMac can read the update off of or is there possibly another way to get this update onto the mac
You just burn a “normal” CD-R. Old CD drives may have issues with CD-RWs, especially if the laser is starting to show its age. Another possibility is to hook up the iMac to another system via Ethernet and transfer the files that way. However, depending on what OS your other system runs, getting it to talk to Mac OS 8.6 may be harder than burning a CD.

If you’re not married to 8.6, you can also upgrade to Mac OS 9.2.2 (by burning an install CD), which supports USB mass storage devices out of the box.
