Hi I have a 2009 13inch mbp and now only one of my usb ports is working and its not letting me transfer files from my mac to my phone. So, this is how it all started. I was watching a tutorial on how to get power into a battery without a charger because I have a phone with a broken charging port. i cut a usb cable open connected posotive and negative wires to the battery. when i plugged it in I got a popup saying my usb port has been disabled and it will be enabled when the whatever was drawing the power was removed. I removed it but i kept getting that popup every boot so I started messing with my wire battery contarption (plugging and unplugging) and eventally got one port to work and power my usb mouse. the other porrt does nothing. I believe the one that powers the mouse is does not have enough power to transfer files or do anything more than power my mouse. My question here is, is there any way to fix this? I was thinking maybe reinstalling drivers or recalibrate them or something. I have already tried reseting pram and smc and disconnected the battery for a few minutes. Thanks for any help. I know I am an idiot for plugging that thing into my usb port!

Looks like you fried the USB port. Your bad. :( There's not much that :apple: can do, certainly without a fee.

What kind of phone may I ask?

Tip 1: never use the outlet on your computer for DIY stuff, unlesss it has protection circuits. Always use a wall adapter for power stuff.

It looks like in trying to "charge" the phone (which IMO, has a risk of damaging your phone too because of the sensitivity of batteries these days), you fried your USB port (drawing too much power/short).

Try resetting the PRAM (or SMC) (google for instructions)

It was an htc thunderbolt. Since the usb port messed up I havent been able to use my mac with out a charger so im assuming the logic board is trashed. Im trying to get ahold of a broken mbp with a good logic board. anyone know if any other models logic board works with the mid2009 mbp 13 inch?
