usb port problem

First problem has occured for my 8 week old macbook. One of the USB ports doesn't seem to be working.(the one with the firewire directly to the left). I plugged in a USB hub, containing my keyboard+scanner, no response from the keyboard or scanner.. So i tried plugging in only the mouse. The red laser turned on, but the mouse was not moving on screen. Anyone every hear of this problem? or know how to fix it.
