I have an old MacBook and when I use a USB headset, it only works if I plug into the USB port on the left side closest to the monitor. If I plug into the USB port on the left side closest to the touchpad I get nothing.

I have a newer Mac and I am wondering if that same quirk exists?

Part of the problem is that I think I have a bad USB headset, because when I plug it in and try recording my voice it doesn't seem to work very well. I plugged in an identical USB headset and it works better, but I am still not sure if the left and right USB ports on my newer MacBook Pro are supposed to work differently?

Very confusing!

So is there a difference between the various USB ports on a MacBook Pro, or are the problems I described on my old MacBook just because it is old hardware?

At least on a PC, a USB port is a USB port, and they are all powered the same.
