I have an iPhone 4 and it was working fine for a month. It gradually stopped charging. It would charge sometimes, and sometimes it wouldn't, particularly in the car or when connected to my PC. When connected to the wall, it would work most of the time, but now its crap. When connected to the wall, I have to play with the wire to get it to charge, and it never charges any other way. I got a hub port power surge error on my computer. IDK if I got the error before I had charging issues or not, but I'm assuming I did.

I had the iPhone replaced by Apple and it charged fine on the car ride home. I tried to sync with my computer, and I got the same error...

Power surge on hub port: a usb device has exceeded the power limits of its hub port

now my brand new iPhone is messed up again, the same way the first one was.

I've tried different wires/plugs. The weird thing is when I went to the Apple store it charged fine. The guy just said I'll give you a new one anyway even though it seems to be working.

Is it an issue with my computer? Do I need to re-replace my phone?

I'm connecting it directly into my USB port on my computer. I'm scared to connect any other USB devices into any of the ports out of fear of ruining the device, so IDK if it's the port or what.

thanks

I would definately love to know how you solved it. This could also be valuable information for somebody whom might be searching for a solution to a similar problem in the future.

I would love to know the solution...I'm having the exact same problem with my 3Gs. I can get it to work occasionally...usually when I'm in danger of complete battery drainage! This morning I had to enter recovery mode just to get iTunes to recognize the phone. I stopped short of a full restore to search for an alternate solution.

Please let me know how you fixed yours!
