I was surprised when the 7s were shipped with the old USB cables. I was sure they would switch to USB c for the 8. Wrong again. I figured Apple would be moving to the new cables for all their new products.

i may be in the minority here but don't see an issue with the lightning cable? got tons of them around the house and at work. never got the whole issue on USB C vs Lightning.

But then they couldn't sell you their $25+ cables

The issue is that if you have a new MacBook/Pro then you can't connect your iPhone at all without some adapter. Also the faster charger uses USB-C, so it would be convenient to not have to buy that stupid $25+ cable.

No, I don't mean move away from the lightning end, I mean change the old USB end to a USB-c.

didn't realize the female part is different between the C and non C

He wants lightning on one end and USB-C on the other so that it can be connected to the new MacBook Pro or the 29W fast charger.

I'll bet you can find a $6 cable on amazon; lighting to USB-c.

Not worth it to risk it. I remember Android phones frying because of faulty USB-C cables.

Usbc on the left, usba on the right.
What's the confusion?

That's OP wants.

Everyone makes faulty products.

I'm not sure what the confusion is, I just decided to post that to make sure we're all on the same page.

And with USB-C it was a real issue, micro-USB you could buy the cheapest cable you can find and be fine. If you wanna get a cheap knock-off from China for your $700+ phone, be my guest, but I'm not gonna risk a fire just to save a few bucks.
