usb unrecognized device

my iphone 4 has been working fine for the last few days. i tried hooking myphone up to my computer and it is giving me an error mssage that the device is unrecognized. i tried a hard reset on the iphone and restarted my computer and i still get this message.

anyone have any ideas?
