I'm in the market for a higher performance USB wireless card to accompany my MacBook Pro and I to the desert for a year. Basically I just need something like this gentlemen...i'm in pretty much the same situation, and won't be able to modify the access point to help my situation (IE, installing a higher gain antenna)

There are several options out there, most notable the Wi-Fire, Quickertek's various Quickey models, and a few products built by Alfa.

After looking around, I see some good info about the Alfa 500mW model, very mixed results about the Quickertek products, and an "okay" review of the Wi-Fire.

What i'm after is some more real-world reports of any usb wireless adaptors that will help out in the situation i'll be in--if you have one of the aforementioned products, i'd love to hear from you.
