Just got a 2017 5K Retina. On my previous iMac 5K Retina there was a Thunderboldt 2 to Display Port connector feeding a 4K Samsung screen. For the new iMac I've added a 3" Apple USB3 to Thunderboldt 2 connector converter cable and plugged in the previous Display Port cable. Not getting any recognition of the screen. Any idea how to proceed? Thanks!

Could you link to the connector you used? USB 3.0 to TB2 doesn't exist as far as I'm aware.
You may have better luck with a simpler setup, like TB3-DP

Apple does make a USB-C/TB3 to TB2 dongle - I use it to connect my Drobo 5D.

In theory it should work, though perhaps the USB-C/TB3 port is not accurately engaging DP Alternate Mode. There have been many reports on this forum of issues with USB-C/TB3 and DisplayPort / HDMI.

While they are not cheap, most folks having such issues have found success using cables from Plugable Technologies. This is their USB-C/DP cable at Amazon. I use a Plugable USB-C to HDMI cable and it's been flawless.

From the Apple Store page for the USB-C/TB3-to-TB2 adapter:

Note: This adapter does not support DisplayPort displays like the Apple LED Cinema Display or third-party DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort displays. For more information, visit the Apple Support page for the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter.

What you need is a USB-C to DisplayPort cable: E.g. https://plugable.com/products/usbc-dp/

You are right, I neglected to search the Apple website for cable limitations before proceeding. I was one to go easy on Apple when the first Dongle uproar began with the USB-C rollout but after being put through the ringer by dongle necessities and lack of dongle inventories easily available I wouldn't be so easy on them anymore.
I managed to cobble together a USB-C to HDMI connection that works from what I had.
