I'm thinking about replacing the CD-R drive in my eMac 700 with a DVD drive, since the eMac's use a standard size disc drive can I put in any IDE drive and have it work or does it have to be specifically compatible with it?

I'm upgrading it for fun, so please, no responses about how its not worth upgrading.

Thanks.

I may have the answer

Im currently working on the same project with my eMac. Some of the newest Dual DVD drives have some issues with a computer that old but a pioneer 109 DVD player and burner will work great and it's a little trickier but a pioneer 111 will work too. Those are the two I know for sure from experience. Hope this helps!

Maybe cheaper, at least much better since you can get a newer optical drive, just buy an external USB optical drive. Search amazon or google shopping.
