So I have an M2 Pro mini in my office and the idea was that as I attempt to stop drinking (long story), I would try to relearn my programming skills from over 25 years ago. I’m looking at Python and C++ both on MacOS and Linux (in VMs). When I do get a chance to use the mini, it is handling the VMs comfortably using Parallels.

However, and here’s my issue, I hardly get to use my office anymore. My partner also works from home quite a bit and claims the office (my job is 99% meetings) so I’m thinking of a MacBook to use while on the sofa. I don’t think I really need the power of a MacBook Pro so am looking at either an M1 or M2 Air but they all seem to only have 8Gb of RAM, will this cause me issues? (Mini has 16gb)

Can you order from apple? You can configure the m2 airs up to 24gb. I currently have an m2 air with 16gb ram and definitely love it. But there are plenty of people here that use 8gb and are more then happy with the performance

Ah thanks. Just had another look and realised memory choice is after selection 😊

So I’ve got an M2 MBA 16gb 256gb on order. Now looking for VM software: an extra license for ParalleLSO seems steep so one of the machines is going to have to have VMware or similar on it
