Use External Time Machine with 2 Macs?

Can I use a single external HD with Time Machine to make backups of my iMac and MacBook Pro if they are both on the same version of OS X?

Or would I have to make 2 partitions?

Time Machine will make folders for each drive, no need for seperate partitions unless you want to use that to enforce a different amount of backup space available for each drive...
