Use FireWire drive connected to thunderbolt display as startup disk

Has anyone tried this:
In your Apple Thunderbolt Disply, connect a bootable Firewire drive
Connect your thunderbolt capable Mac to the display
Restart your Mac after setting the FireWire drive as the startup disk or selecting the FireWire drive as the startup as you press the Option key while the Mac boots up

Does it work?
If it does, how's the performance?

Yes it works! It boots up the FireWire drive rhat is connected in my Thunderbolt Display.
