Hello all,

Lately, I have been using my Power Mac G5 with Sorbet Leopard quite a bit. Dare I say it is my favorite computer to use. Of course, I use my M1 Mac and work laptop for a lot of tasks that just require a modern computer. At the end of the day, Facebook is just too much of a pain to use on an old Mac, as is YouTube (IMO). Yes, they both work on my G5, but not too well.

Anyway, one thing that has been frustrating for me and many others is using Gmail in old clients. I know there are some work arounds that require you to lower your security settings across the board. That isn’t the most ideal solution. However, I did find a work around for iCloud email in Mail 3.6. Here are the instructions if you are interested.

I used this post as a starting point- https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251058871

  • Generate an app-specific password. Instructions can be found here- https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204397
  • Go to Mail on you vintage Mac and then Preferences. Add a new account. Put your iCloud email info in and make sure imap is selected. Use the app-specific password you created prior. Use the imap incoming and outgoing server information here- https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202304
  • That’s it. You now have iCloud email using Mail 3.6.
Unfortunately, Notes do not sync with the Notes App on iOS and MacOS. However, Notes you make in Mail 3.6 do show up in your iCloud inbox.
