Use iMac as Monitor or Sell iMac and Buy new monitor?

Guys.. question.. looking for input.

I currently have an iMac (as listed in signature).. and I've recently built a Windows Box. I have a Mac Laptop and I'm using my iMac as a target display for my PC... My Imac isn't getting much use (aside from the screen!) and my concern is this:

Using the iMac as a screen is great but if the iMac goes bad.. the screen is gone too. Assume I have an offer for 1050.

Should I take this offer and spend 700 on an Asus 2560x1440 monitor and pocket the 350 or keep the iMac and use THAT as a monitor?

Seems to me there's no point in keeping the iMac if you're not using it and you can get a different screen that you're happy with and still have money left over.

I have that exact same iMac I think; neat to be able to be a DisplayPort monitor, isn't it, unlike all the newer ChunderBolt ones... ;-P

If you are happy with your windows box and the laptop I would say sell the iMac. Every month you keep it it loses value.
