I'm planning on purchasing a MacBook Air, and the storage is limited, so I was wondering how I could transfer all of my iMovie movie files and projects to an external hard drive and have them show up in iMovie when the drive is plugged in. Is this possible?

Plug in the external drive, and run iMovie(I am assuming iMovie11). An icon for the hard drive will appear at the bottom of the Project Library. Drag and drop a Project onto the icon. You will be asked whether you want to transfer the associated events as well. Choose yes, otherwise the Project won't be editable.
