use jailbreakme or pwnage tool?

hello,
i just read a tutorial on how to edit my host file. I am currently running 3.1.3 on a 3gs, jailbroken. I have shsh,s for 4.0.1 and i have the 4.0.1 fw downloaded to my computer.

I am just wondering if i can get to 4.0.1, can i use either jailbreakme or pwnage tool to jailbreak?

If you can get to 3.1.2 with old bootrom, use Redsn0w to jailbreak.
Then use pwnage tool to go to 4.0.1 if you have hashes for both firmwares.

Otherwise update to 4.0.1 then use jailbreak.me

on 4.0.1 the only thing you can use to JB is jailbreakme.com

Not correct, you can use PWNAGE Tool on all firmwares for iPhone 3GS up to 4.1 even, it's just not officially supported.

On 4.0.1 I used both pwnage tool and jailbreakme.com and found that jailbreakme.com was more stable, but that could have just been me.

Pwnage Tool jailbreak (coming from 3.1.2, old bootrom) on 3GS at 4.0.1 is rock solid stable but more work than Jailbreak.me

Pwnagetool creates custom firmware, but to install / restore with one, you phone needs to be pwned JB = accept unsigned code. The last JB that can pwned was for 3.1.2.

If you are already on 4.0.1 you got no choice but to you use jailbreakme.
