Does anyone know if its possible for me to be able to use the 3G data plan I have on my iPhone 4 along with MyWi and have my D-link DIR-655 router pick up that signal and then amplify it and share it throughout the house?

Basically just asking if I can get my router to act sort of like a repeater for my iPhone's wifi signal. Is this possible? Any tips from any seasoned networking professionals would be very much appreciated!

Merry X-mas everyone :)

No, your router needs an ethernet cable to be plugged in to transmit data.
It doesnt receive/pick up signal wirelessly. It just broadcasts it.
There is other ways of doing it thru USB tethering probably bridging it.

You can POSSIBLY do this pretty easily, but probably not with this router/firmware combo.

I know with a DD-WRT install it's as simple as configuring the router as a wireless repeater.

I say *possibly* because I'm not sure that even DD-WRT would let you do this with an ad-hoc source, such as is MyWi. It may not even be possible because somewhere in my memory I seem to remember that ad-hoc wireless doesn't support the network layer required to carry true routing.

I hear you.
It amazes me too how cheap people are and instead of paying for internet they want to use their cellphone instead:D

+ 1. People like the OP get on my nerve.

How about just buying a real internet connection instead of abusing AT&T's data network in a way it was not meant to be used?

People like you ruin it for the rest of us.

Enjoy your Christmas, you cheap *****.

PS - Please don't help him people.

Thanks for the help to those who provided it.

I am up in a very rural area visiting my parents for the holidays and they are out of range of DSL service or cable internet.

They did happen to have a router that I found in storage which they had used before for some simple networking in the house and was hoping that I could use it for my little cousins' iPod Touches so that we could access our email/etc while we are away from the rest of civilization for the holidays. Having to sit right next to everyone with my iPhone and having the MyWi transmit power to 100% kills the battery fast (even when its plugged into a power source) so I was hoping there was a better way of doing this.
