Use of Sprint iPhone 4S and 5 in Europe?

Is there a easy to utilize a Sprint iPhone 4S and 5 in Europe? Both have SIM card slots on the side but are CDMA. Is the only way to it is to buy a prepaid 30 minute card and put it in both phones?
