Use Photos As Folder Icon

In Windows, you can use the photos within a folder as the folder icon...this makes it easy for visual artists to quickly find a work. Is there any way to do this on the Mac through a preference selection. I have hundreds of folders containing paintings and this was a helpful feature of windows...any help would be appreciated.

Thanks - its more like having the contents of each folder displayed on the folder.
