Use time machine to copy from imac to macbook pro

Hi

I have just ordered a new macbook pro and was wondering as i use time machine through a usb Hard drive would it be possible to use this time machine backup to restore the new macbook pro so it has all the same files and software on etc?

I would be using a backup of an iMac 21.5" to a MacBook Pro via a 250gb Western Digital Hard Drive.
