i just noticed something that my PowerBook G4 doesn't have this option in the System Preferences, but my iBook G4 does. Is that because my iBook's running Leopard and my PB's running Tiger?

Tiger had two-finger scrolling.

It could be because your PowerBook still use the ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) trackpad (models in 2005 started using a USB trackpad, therefore having two-finger scrolling).

Check out this utility to add two-finger scrolling to your PB: http://iscroll2.sourceforge.net/#checksupport, the installer will check if whether your machine is support or not so it's worth a shot.

dude, you rock. ive got 2 finger scrolling on my pb! So ADB was simply a software configuration?

(i still think its stupid how an iBookG4 has it but a PowerbookG4 doesn't)

It's a hardware configuration: before USB, the trackpad was connected using ADB (think of it as an old-school USB).

(Well if your iBook or PB was made in 2005 they should have two-finger scrolling)

if its a hardware configuration, how was i able to pull this off with software? can this be done with a PC or an old iBook G3?

Because this was Apple's ADB driver for the PBs and such but modified so it would enable two-finger scrolling.

Nope, PC trackpads use Synaptics for scrolling, two-finger scrolling is an Apple feature :D.

iScroll doesn't support G3 notebooks, it's probably because the trackpads can't detect two fingers.
