I am purchasing my friends iPhone 5 for Verizon. I am
Wondering if I can setup the phone to work with att. Is it possible to have it unlocked or
Do it myself?
Thanks

Actually, the phone sold to Sprint is also the same phone sold to Verizon, I believe.

Verizon & Sprint uses CDMA, a sim is not required for the iPhone to work with the network. The GSM part of the phone with the carriers only works for international GSM not in the US

That's not 100% correct. Sprint and Verizon iPhones come with nano SIMs and the SIMs are required to use them with their LTE networks.

The Sprint and Verizon iPhones can be unlocked, but for international use only. You cannot use them on any other domestic carrier except for the carrier they were originally activated with. In other words, a Verizon iPhone will never work on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, or any other carrier.

Thanks, I assume even having it unlocked by a carrier will not help.

Ahh that is kind of crazy, I'd expect that a CDMA phone could at some point be used on another CDMA network.

Yes you can. I am using a Verizon iPhone 5 with AT&T. The Verizon iPhone comes unlocked. Just get a nano SIM card from the AT&T store, it's usually free. The only bad thing is that you can only get 4g no LTE. Everything else works perfect

Verizon iPhones will not work with AT&T or any US Cellular Network in the US.

That's true for the iphone 4 and 4S.
BUT, He's asking about a verizon iphone 5.
And yes a VZ iphone 5 will work with AT&T and any GSM carrier.
Since its factory unlocked out the box like all VZ iphone 5's.
You will get get GPRS, 2G, 3G and HSPA+ but you will not be able to pull any LTE data with AT&T with a verizon i5 since its LTE bands are incompatible and will only work with verizons LTE.

Wrong and wrong. An LTE phone (IPhone 5) requires a SIM to work...even on CDMA/LTE carriers.

Also...the Verizon IPhone 5 is unlocked and will work on US GSM networks.

That post was last month and has been corrected many times :)
