So this is really bugging me. This girl I know keeps posting screenshots on Twitter from her new iPhone. The phone always says no service, connected to wifi, yet she's using Whatsapp. She used to use Whatsapp on her old phone, and had that set up with her number.

So my question. If she installed Whatsapp on her iPhone, and when it asks for a number, she uses the number in her old phone - would that mean she could use Whatsapp?

I've asked her already and she doesn't understand what I'm asking. She just said she got it 'working'.

Providing the setup pin can be received by the number then yeah sure. The actual messages etc sent via whatsapp go over the data connection so a signal isn't required on wifi
