The Nintendo Switch 2 includes a new built-in social feature called GameChat that allows up to 12 users to engage in video chats simultaneously, even if they're playing in different games. To facilitate this, Nintendo offers an official Switch 2 Camera that connects via USB-C, but it turns out that an iPhone does the job just as well, if not better.

Niles Mitchell has thoughtfully shared a demo of the Switch-iPhone configuration that explains how to set it up. You'll need a HDMI to USB-C cable and a HDMI converter cable to connect them, which should cost around $30 in total.

If you aren't lucky enough to own a Switch 2, you can always use your iPhone as a webcam for a Mac. Click the link to learn how it works.

Nice hack.

But I think he might be wrong about it only being for "modern iPhones with USB-C"... I think it would work just fine with a lightning port iPhone if you have a lightning to HDMI adaptor, e.g. Apple's Lightning to Digital AV Adapter.

Once you have HDMI coming out of the iPhone, it's just the same, you can use the same HDMI-to-usb-c capture cable in the video.

Not finding the app.

What I want to know is if we can use the Switch 2 webcams with the AppleTv for FaceTime. THAT would be amazing.

HDMI converter cable
You should probably say "capture" cable/card (which is what he says in the video). It's not a simple HDMI to USB-C video converter.

It's for recording any HDMI video output so this will likely work with any camera that can send its video output via HDMI (or can be converted to HDMI like in this video).
