So it's my girlfriend's birthday in mid-August and I planned to get her a shiny new iMac - but only a lunatic would buy a 'new' iMac considering the design is over a year old.

The refurb store doesn't seem like much of a bargain for a graded iMac with a year-old design, so eBay etc. seems the only option. But the iMac is just called the iMac rather than the iMac 2, iMac 3 etc., so how do I know that the one I'm buying is the current model?

2011 iMac would be iterated as iMac 12.1 or 12.2 .. Model number would be go from MC309xx; MC812xx; MC813xx; MC814xx and it would use Core i5 (except for BTO machine) and Radeon 6xxxM for the GPU. Anything lower means it's from 2010 or earlier.

Sorry if that's not what you asked?
