I'm looking to pick up a lightly used iPhone 5 off-contract for Sprint, as my contract won't be up for a while, for as cheap as possible. I was wondering what the consensus is with the new iPhone being announced soon.

Would I be better off waiting for that announcement and hope there's an influx of iPhone 5's for sale driving the price down, or with the potential for the 5 being discontinued is it going to drive the prices up? I've never attempted to buy an iPhone off contract so I don't know how the prices tend to trend around announcement time. I've been following prices on eBay mostly, if anyone has any recommendations regarding when to buy or where to buy, I'd appreciate it.

I'm currently using a cracked screen GS3, and will probably upgrade to the iPhone 5S when my contract is up and then just gift the 5 to my mother.

Common sense says that when a new product is released the previous product will loose vale. The longer you wait, the cheaper it will be.
