To an extent they're always nuts because nobody wants to take a hit on their used machine. The M4 MacBook Air with 16gb and 256gb new at $799 should dictate all other prices. Most of the machines available in the M series do what 85% of people who buy an Air would want to do so its understandable that people dont want to segregate prices out further. But I am seeing everybody trying to sell their machines for new M4 16gb prices.

Just an idea of what it should be for 13" units. 15" units are +$200:

NEW
M4 16gb at $799 <--- dictates other prices

USED
M3 16gb at $600
M2 16gb at $450
M1 16gb at $350

That seem right?

For some absurd reason people seem to have this idea in their heads that depreciation doesn’t apply to them when they’re selling their machine and they have some right to get the same price on a private sale that they bought it for 2 years ago. No idea where that logic comes from. Lots of people say “ah well it’s been kept in a case and in perfect condition” - well a new one will be in perfect condition! And it definitely won’t have a perfect condition battery. Some strange entitlement culture, I think. Your pricing suggestions seem far more reasonable.

Yeah. And at the same time I don't blame them for trying to get top dollar. But that breaks down at the point where the machine doesn't sell lol.
