Hey Everyone,

I purchased a used M1 MBA off eBay and have been pretty happy with it so far. I finally cracked it open, because I wanted to do the thermal pad mod, and just see how clean the internals are, and to my surprise everything looks pretty clean:

Does anyone see anything strange or off in these photos? Everything was surprisingly not dusty or beat-up.

Can anyone confirm if this is an OEM battery as well? The cycle count is very low (less than 200), so I assumed maybe it was replaced at some point.

Thanks in advance to everyone for your time and help, it is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Asif

This was my own M1 Air that I just popped the bottom off for the first time after nearly four years of daily use at home and in my classroom, being hauled back and forth each day. Not having a fan in here means that there is no airflow inside the machine, so no dust being sucked in.

The battery has the same markings as mine, and mine is the original, so yours likely is as well.

I'm a little unclear what the question is. It sounds like the OP scored a very lightly used M1 Air that's been kept in a clean place ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Haha, yes basically! I'm used to cracking open laptops (with fans) and being greeted by dust, pet hair, etc. I've bought used laptops off eBay before, never an Apple though, and I can tell you I've seen some really disgusting things inside a laptop as the second (or third) owner.

Last one I opened up was a MacBook I had back in like 2010 or so. It was running really hot, and I has a suspicion it was full of dust. I was not wrong. I had cats, and it was horrifying in there. Thankfully MacBook Airs are in the fanless era now...

200 cycles is a lot. I've got an M1 with 44 cycles and it was day one purchase. Been plugged into the wall ever since. Only calibration cycles done by macOS.
