Used Mac Book Pro and Mac Mini

I recently was introduced to someone who was selling there macbook pro and mac mini and i would like your opinion on whether or not it would be worth the buy! I know have a white macbook that if i would buy the mbp i would sell anyways the mbp is a 17 inch it has only been used for about 3 months it has logic 8, it has the adobe package with all the programs on it the one that is 1800$ it has maxed out everything on it. It is the old mbp not the new models, he is selling it for 1700$. Would that be worth it to buy because i dont have the money to buy it all at once he said he would do a payment plan. And he has a mac mini he is selling for 300 bucks. is this a great deal that i should jump on or should i wait a couple years for a newer model when i actually have money
