Hello!

I'm just not sure about the timeline of releases over the last few years. Wondering if it's worth buying an older machine that's been offered to me.

Here are the specs:
2 x 2.66 dual core intel xeon
10 gb ram
320 & 500 gb hard drives
Ati Radeon HD 3870
Wireless G
2x e-sara ports non hot swap

He said he purchased it in 2008 and it is a "mac pro 1.1". In the other forum people talk very highly of the 2008...

Is this machine valued at $1400. Is it worth it?

Thank you!

It's 2006 Mac Pro but that price is very good especially as it has 10GB RAM and upgraded GPU (I think it's 4870 not 3870?).

I'd probably offer $1200 - $1300 and yes, it's a good machine. Based on completed eBay auctions $1400 is very fair, but life is all about bartering.

2006 seems like it's going back a bit far, but if the price is flexible I'll probably get it.

Thanks!

It's still a pretty fast in terms of power. Quad-core at 2.66GHz is not bad, I bet it beats all current Macs excluding quad iMacs and Mac Pros
