I am in between purchasing either a used MacBook Pro 14' M1 Pro 16gb/512 ssd (94% battery health) or a new MacBook Air M4 2025 16gb/256 ssd for the same price, around 750€ (800 US$).

Which one would you buy and why? Thanks

It just depends on what you plan to do with it, for example, are you going to be doing things that require more power (i.e., Photoshop or other graphics-intensive programs. If so, you know your answer.

From this site, it seems as if the m4 will be faster on most everything except gaming.

Do note that the pro will have better speakers and screen. Personally, I would do the m4 with the thought of longer OS updates.

Yes but it does not take cooking under cosiferation? The M4 in the air does not perform as it would in the pro correct?

Everything depends on how you plan to use the machine.

If you're not sure about that, then the Air is probably fine. The M4 MacBook Air is a solid computing device for almost everyone.

  1. USED MacBook Pro M1 Max 32/512 – €1,082
  2. USED MacBook Pro M1 Pro 32/512 – €874
  3. NEW MacBook Air M4 24/512 – €1,226
  4. NEW MacBook Pro M4 16/512 – €1,407
These are the machines I have found and their prices.

are you taking advice or just trying to justify the decision you want to/have already made?

new device = warranty/support
used device = you're on your own

have you thought about Apple certified refurbished on the Apple website?

Unfortunately I live in Greece and I cannot buy from Allple's Certified Refurbished. Yes advise as to the best buy.

New M4 Air.

M1 Pro is a 4 year old product. What that means is major macOS updates will only last another 2-3 years or so.

I have a M1 Pro 16/512 and it works great, but I'm about to switch to an M4 Air. I don't expect to see any change in performance. I'm doing it only for the extended support. That said, I really love my M1 Pro and did't feel the need to change at all.

The funny thing is that I'm not upgrading my OS to Tahoe because it looks horrible to me, so extending support isn't quite as important as I had once thought.

Also, my wife has an M3 Air 8/512 and my M1 seems much faster, but that could be because of her limited ram.

If I was looking to save money, I'd get an M1/M2 Pro 16/512 and use it for a couple of years on Sequoia until they clean up the UI. Touchscreens are coming and there will be a big loss of value for the non-touch devices. Kind of like the shift from Intel to M series...

Just my opinion
