I recently bought a 2015 early MBP it came with no battery because the original was swollen and the 128GB SSD also removed because of HIPPA compliance. I purchased a battery and ssd from OWC, learned that the OWC ssd requires at least High sierra to use the ssd and this MBP was at El Cap. That's the backstory but my issue is, when i boot the MBP it will chime and since it will not recognize the ssd it should go to the question mark folder. However in my case getting to the question mark folder can take well over 10 minutes before it shows and sometimes it doesn't. When I press the option key, I've held it for a good 5 minutes and never get the screen to choose a boot volume.

I've reset pram and SMC but no change, i would love to know the cause for this behavior but at this point i just need to try something that it gets the MBP to display the expected behavior.

To get by I purchase as used apple SSD to get high sierra installed and the firmware updated.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
