When we bought our MacBook Pro a few months ago I set it up with my user ID first which I quickly saw uses my Apple ID password, I then set up my wife's ID and at first used her Apple ID password, but now it requires mine under her name to login, and then started asking for a password for the keychain which we never set up. Any idea on how to turn off it asking for a password for the keychain and why it defaulted to my password for logging in?

We are using the latest OSX, thanks!!

Sounds like the password got reset. Keychain isn't something that can be disabled, it's an essential part of OS X that remembers your username and password for things like iCloud or Mail.
