Just got my shiny new MacBook Air and am trying to migrate from Win7 to OSX.
Here's a question about folder locations in the OSX user space.

I want to have my user data on a NAS not in the MBA local SSD.
I can mount the NAS share using the User login items in System Preferences but I can find no info on where the apps store their data.

e.g. in iMail, where does iMail store the emails ? In Outlook there is a *.pst file that can be moved anywhere (within limits).
How can I get iMail to look for a "Mail Store" on a share on the NAS ?

Until I can solve this, I'm forced to use Win7 in Parallels where I know how to get Outlook, Word, Excel etc to work with NAS shares.

Thanks.

Most applications store their data in ~/Library and there is no way to have them use anything else. I'd recommend against moving part/all of your home folders to a NAS since the laptop is not always going to be connected to the NAS

Not true in my case. The MBA is a portable iMac as far as I am concerned. It will always be within range of an internal WiFi network or linked to a TBD.

Looks like I'll be continuing to use Win7 apps then.
