Today, I was starting up my computer (running Snow Leopard) and let it get to the login screen. Then, accidentally, I clicked the guest account instead of my account and it started logging in. I let it go for a little while thinking I would just log out and back into my account. However, it was taking a very long time to start so I force shut down the computer. I started it back up and everything seemed fine, except everything is missing from my desktop (which wasn't all that much, thankfully, just a few documents, only one of which was important) and my downloads folder is emptied. I am thinking this was caused by the settings on the guest account - that account removes everything in the home folder every time it logs in/out. I also lost all of my application preferences and my address book, but that too is not a very big deal.

Is there anything I can do to get my data back? I'm thinking it's permanently deleted, as there is nothing in the trash and I have about 10 more gigs available. I don't know if this is some weird bug, but I'm going to reinstall OS X just to be safe, as I have been seing some other glitches. Has anybody else had a problem like this?
